How to Get Ready for Prom

What’s the most wonderful time of the year here at the Castle? That’s easy: it’s prom season! Prom season is in full effect for us and we want to have you join in on the fun. Here we are going to walk you through the steps necessary to help ensure you have the most amazing prom night!

Finding the Perfect Prom Dress

Prom dress shopping can certainly be overwhelming. There are thousands of gowns to choose from at Castle Couture and to be able to pick only one is super stressful (especially when all of them are so beautiful!) So, let’s start with our tips and tricks for finding the perfect gown.

At Castle Couture you do not make an appointment to shop for your prom dress. This is ideal because you can come at any time of the day and work around your schedule. Finding time to do anything as a junior or senior in high school is hard enough; finding a prom dress should be enjoyable and not at all add to your busy schedule. Because it is on a first-come, first-served basis, we always recommend coming first thing in the morning (even more so on weekends!). This way, you probably will not have to wait and can walk right into our prom boutique.

Research your prom gown style
Research your prom style

First, we suggest doing a little research online before you come to our store. This can be done by checking out our website or even our Instagram page to give you some ideas and show you different styles of prom gowns. When you arrive at our store, you will be matched with a prom stylist whom you can show your images to. This is extremely helpful for the stylist because she can begin by pulling prom gowns for you to try on that are similar to what you are showing her and then work from there. Our prom boutique has thousands of gowns in stock that can be purchased the day of your visit. This is fabulous because you get to take the gown you fall in love with home that day!

Second, we know it is a race within the schools to buy your gown first, due to the fact that you do not want someone else to have the same dress. We completely understand this, but, when it comes down to it, you should never settle for something you do not love. If the gown that you fell in love with happens to be someone else’s gown as well, that only means you both have amazing taste! Celebrities in Hollywood often wear the same gown, so totally do not stress over wearing the same gown as someone who is not even in your friend group!

Another major tip we always give our prom girls is to not worry about what others think or what others are wearing. Many times throughout a weekend we will hear our prom shoppers say they’re worried about what a friend group or boyfriend/girlfriend will think and we always remind them to wear whatever makes them feel beautiful! Prom is a time where you can wear something fun and different, so the only opinion that will matter when you look back at your photos in ten years is your own.

Add an Accessory!

Now that you have the most stunning prom dress in your high school, it’s time to top off the look with some accessories! Downstairs at Castle Couture, we offer an array of beautiful prom accessories that will pull your entire look together. Accessories are something that can be purchased anytime before the big day, but we recommend shopping the same day you bought your prom gown as you have the gown right in your hand! Accessories can range from a beautiful evening bag, which is glamorous and the perfect size for the necessities of prom night, to jewelry that will allow the lights from the hall to dance off of your gems all night long.

Perfect hair and makeup for prom

Let’s Get Glammed!

Now that you found the perfect prom dress and accessories, let’s talk about how to get the perfect hair and makeup. You should try and book an appointment with your hair and makeup artist about three months in advance to ensure you get the date and time that you’d like. You must remember that hundreds of girls will be looking to book the same date and approximate time that you want. To ensure you get first pick, the earlier to call is the better!

Some of our favorite looks for prom would include a neutral, smoky eye and a beautiful, glossy lip. A neutral, smoky eye will give you that full glam look that, perhaps, your favorite influencers look to accomplish but without looking too much out of your element! As for hair, it really depends on your gown. A high-neck gown pairs beautifully with a slicked-back ponytail while a strapless dress and huge Hollywood curls are a lovely match.

Fitted to Perfection

Now that you have your gown and your hair and makeup appointment is booked, it’s time to get fitted! We recommend booking an alterations appointment for your prom dress as soon as possible. Because hundreds of girls are getting their gowns fitted to them around the same time, seamstresses and tailors will be booking up fairly quickly. Once you have your alterations appointment, bring your shoes and undergarments to your first fitting! When you arrive prepared, you can be taken care of immediately and have your gorgeous gown fitted to your body perfectly.

Prom corsage

Don’t Forget About the Flowers!

Flowers always seem to be the one thing people tend to overlook. Whether it is for a day as large as their wedding or as exciting as their prom, it seems to be a detail easy to neglect. We suggest finding a corsage and boutonniere that will complement your and your date’s attire. Placing this order a few weeks before the date of your prom is the safest bet so you can make sure the florist has enough time to fulfill your and your date’s order.

Happy Prom Day!

The key to having the perfect prom day is to relax and prep everything beforehand. When the day comes there is only so much you can alter, so you have to go with the flow and enjoy your day! Make sure to leave yourself with lots of time so you can soak everything in and remember this day for the rest of your life. We sat down with Nicole Brain from our prom department and asked her what tips she would give to someone in order to ensure a smooth prom day. “Leave all your stress and negativity at home. This is supposed to be an effortless and most amazing time of your life. You only have a junior/senior prom once, so make sure to make the most of it! Take lots of photos. This way, you can look back at all the great memories you have made.”

Send all your prom looks over to our Instagram page @castlecouture and tell us how you will be prepping for prom.

Wedding Dress Timeline: From Shopping to Alterations

Your designer bridal gown will be custom-made for you

Wedding Dress Timeline: I’m Ready to Buy My Gown, What’s Next?

Congratulations! You are finally shopping for the wedding dress of your dreams. We’re sure you have a million questions, but, no worries, we have your back. This week we’re going to go over everything you need to know when it comes to the time frame of dress shopping.

When Do I Start Wedding Dress Shopping?

The ideal time to begin wedding dress shopping would be about one year before you tie the knot. Now, this may sound like it is too soon, but you’ll understand why shortly. Gowns can take about nine months to arrive and you still need time for slight alterations as well as steaming and pressing of your bridal gown. Brides come to Castle Couture to find the wedding gown of their dreams and these gowns are created by some of the most fabulous – and busy – bridal gown designers in the world, like Matthew Christopher, Allure Bridals, and Stephen Yearick. After you fall in love with one of our designers’ gowns, we will place the order straight to the designer’s warehouse.

Each gown order we place is custom-made for you. This means the fabric is cut based on your body measurements and in the colors you requested (which is why our bridal gowns are considered final sale). It takes time to cut the fabrics, create the gown, and add any custom beading or appliques the bride may have requested. Most gowns (not all!) are made overseas, so once you factor shipping into this process that can easily be an additional four to six weeks.

Bring your shoes and undergarments to your Try on Gown appointment

My Dress Came In, Now What?

So exciting! The gown in which you will be starting your “happily ever after” has arrived. The next step would be to set up your “Try On Gown” appointment, commonly known as your TOG. This appointment is your chance to check out your beautiful gown, show your family, and make sure that everything is perfect. At this appointment, we suggest bringing the undergarments that you plan on wearing the day of your wedding as well as your heels. This is not an alterations appointment, but it is an opportunity to meet with our fabulous seamstresses who have worked on endless couture gowns and have years upon years of experience! At your TOG, a seamstress can give you a quote as to how much your alterations may be, based on the gown, beadwork, and any custom work you may want to be done to the dress.

Let the Alterations Begin!

Starting alterations means you are that much closer to the big day! Alterations should be started about three months before you say, “I do.” The reason is that this is most likely the closest your body is going to be to how it will look the day of your wedding, yet still allow for the alterations to be finished in time. Be prepared to have an average of three to five fittings. This is because your first appointment is simply to chat with the seamstress, get pinned, and explain what your goals are for the gown. We chatted with one of our alterations department supervisors, Jess Tolwinski, to get her advice for any brides that are about to begin the alterations process. “I always recommend bringing a friend or family member with you that you really trust. There are a lot of decisions that need to be made when it comes to how the gown will look and having someone help you is always a great feeling. This is your big day and making sure you look absolutely perfect is always our goal,” explained Tolwinski.

Once alterations are complete, the bride will typically pick up her gown about two to three days before the wedding. This is so the gown is steamed and stuffed to perfection and will be flawless when removed from the white garment bag on the wedding day!

These Valentine’s Day Wedding Ideas Have Our Hearts Bursting

There is no better day of the year to express your love than on February 14th. Valentine’s Day has been celebrated for over a hundred years, which is exactly how long your love will be lasting! Here we went over our favorite Valentine’s Day wedding themes and all the love that is put into each.

Valentine’s Day Wedding Ideas

Fabulous decor is truly what makes a Valentine’s Day wedding so on theme! Decorations can range from backdrops and centerpieces to table confetti and much more. After that you need to think of all the small details. This can include invitations, cake, and even tie your theme into your bouquet. Take a read and see which of these ideas you would have at your Valentine’s Day wedding.

Invitations

You really need to set the scene and give your guests a little taste of what to expect based on your invite. A great Valentine’s Day wedding invite will include the obvious colors of reds and pinks, but it really should express the love you share for your future spouse within the invite. Try to include a personal touch that will tie in your theme of love with all your guests. An example of this could be adding the constellations from the night you met on the back of the invite, a map of where you said yes, or adding a photo from the first Valentine’s Day you ever spent together (everyone loves a good throwback!).

Centerpieces

A classic Valentine’s Day look consists of romance: deep reds and blush tones. A centerpiece that would fit right into that theme and is also a super simple DIY is using tall glass vases filled with water and red rose petals, with a floating candle on top. This is super simple, inexpensive, and an awesome way to make sure that your guests can still chat across the table.

Another centerpiece idea is a bundle of rose petals – ranging from reds and pinks to white – and cluster them in the center, sprinkling small diamond decor pieces on top and about four candles lined up on top of the petals. This is another simple, yet elegant, centerpiece that could tie in your whole table.

Photo Moments

Some of the best parts of weddings are looking back at all the fun and silly photos you took with your friends and family. Finding photo ops that will help add to your memories is always important and your guests will love you for it. We are totally gushing over the thought of having a “Kissing Booth” themed photo booth at your wedding! It is a cute, old school way to have photo ops that all the couples and families will love!  Another photo idea is having your florist create a sculpture made of roses. This could be a large XO or a large heart made of roses. We love, love, love this idea! It’s not only an awesome photo opportunity but a fabulous decoration to keep around your venue or place behind your sweetheart table during desserts.

Bouquets

Speaking of your florist, ask them to create a stunning bouquet that is classic and romantic. Roses are, of course, the first flower that comes to mind for Valentine’s Day; but adding some sparkles to the bouquet as well as some sweet baby’s breath is a lovely way to enhance a basic rose bouquet. As your flowers will be filled with a rich red and bright white, your bridesmaids’ bouquets could be filled with blush-toned roses. These will complement your look without outshining your bridal bouquet.

Favors

Your family and friends were kind enough to spend the most romantic and intimate day of the year to come out and celebrate you and your new spouse, so thanking them in a fabulous way only seems right! Cute Valentine’s Day wedding-themed favors can include so much, but the most popular ones definitely seem to be the following!

  1. A mini box of chocolates with the date of your wedding and names on the box.
  2. A custom-labeled bottle of champagne.
  3. A flower truck outside handing out roses as your guests leave for the night.
  4. Champagne- or rose-infused gummy bears.
  5. Custom-printed M&M’s: these could have your wedding date, photos, and names on them.

Favors are such a fun way to express yourself and really wow your guests!

Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday in 2021, so get your planning started and message us on our Instagram how you’ll be celebrating with your loved ones @castlecouturebridal!

How to Stay Warm at a Winter Wedding

Winter weddings are one of the most beautiful opportunities to cozy up with your loved ones and celebrate one of the most exciting, monumental moments in your life. Winter weddings are beyond fabulous, but the most difficult encounter about these amazing days is how chilly it can get at these events. From frosty toes, rosy cheeks, and shivering guests, you want to make sure, whether you are the bride or a guest, you are as comfortable as one can be during this exciting day!

Dress for A Winter Wedding

As mentioned, winter weddings can be absolutely stunning, which means your outfit should match just that! When it comes to guests, any deep, jewel-toned gowns are great to wear. During the colder months, you are fairer than any other time of the year; that’s why wearing a rich color will be most flattering compared to rocking a pastel shade in February. Along with a beautiful, rich tone, a black faux fur shawl is a great addition to any winter look! Now that the guests will be looking fabulous, it’s time to focus on the bride.

When it comes to winter weddings, we always suggest brides wear whatever they’re most comfortable in! A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to wear what makes you feel most beautiful. We sat down with our bridal manager, Christina Dougherty, to get her opinion on what a bride should wear when she’s saying “I do” during these frigid months. “The season should never matter; only her feelings should matter. Whether she goes for glitter or a floral lace pattern, any gown works great with any season. You should only dress for you and what makes you happy. Your dress should have your personality in it, not a season.” So, a bride should wear whatever she desires: It is her big day and if that means a strapless mermaid is her dream dress, that is exactly what she should wear!

Shoes For a Winter Wedding

Shoes are one of the most fun and fabulous accessories to shop for (and one that you can even get carried away shopping for!). When it comes to your wedding day, get ready to pray to the shoe gods to find the most perfect heel! Winter weddings are tricky when it comes to shoe shopping considering weather can really play a major role. Your wedding dress is one thing – this is your chance to express yourself and feel like the princess you always imagined yourself being – but when it comes to shoes that’s a different story! You need to find something gorgeous, yet comfortable. We always suggest the brand Badgley Mischka to our brides as we believe they are the most beautiful wedding shoes you’ll ever find and are extremely comfortable. They’re meant for all-day wear; this way, your feet will be thanking you! Finding a beautiful, comfortable pair is important for any wedding, but for a wedding held any time from November through Februrary, we also suggest rocking a closed-toe look. Naturally, your toes and fingers are the first to lose blood flow in the cold and turn that not so flattering blueish color. Nobody wants that to happen to them, especially on a day where all eyes are on you! A beautiful closed-toe heel with a glamorous brooch is exactly what every bride needs to be warm, comfortable, and looking beautiful!

Additional Tips for Your Big Day!

Some additional fun, fabulous tips for hosting a winter wedding include what to pack in your purse, some additional ideas for décor, and how to stay nice and toasty!

Your Purse

When it comes to what to put in your purse for yourself and your bridal party, it should include tissues, hand warmers, and lip balm! These may sound silly or make you question why you would need such things, but these tissues aren’t just for the tears you may shed as you say your “I dos”, but for when you are outside in the cold taking your photos! Naturally, your nose will begin to run and there is no need to sniffle throughout all your wedding photos. The next must-have is hand warmers! Everyone will be looking at that stunning ring on your left hand and the last thing you want is for your hands to be as cold as ice! This goes for your bridal party as well. They’ll be outside with you and your partner the entire time and should be just as cozy as the happy couple. Lastly, you must have some sort of lip balm in your purse! With the number of friends and family you’ll be kissing hello and the number of photos you’ll be smiling in, it’s important to not have chapped or cracked lips. A bride should look like a million bucks at all times and helping her stay cozy will make the day that more memorable!

Winter Decor

When all is said and done, this is a winter wedding, after all, so embrace it when it comes to your decor! We love ice sculptures around the reception; this is such a classic way to decorate while incorporating your theme.

Keeping Warm

Any part of the wedding that is outdoors, such as a reception or cocktail hour, must have multiple outdoor heaters! This is a great way to have your guests cozy up and chat by a heater. Or, even better, an amazing little fireplace to have a cocktail in front of is always a great addition to any wedding!

Dress Like You’re on “The Bachelor”

The Bachelor Dresses: How to Dress Like You Are on The Bachelor

You already accepted the ring, but will you accept this rose? The Bachelor has been filling millions of homes on Monday nights for over 15 years and we can’t get enough! Between the handsome bachelor, gorgeous women, and drama-packed hours, it can be hard to decide what the best part is. For us, the answer is easy: We are obsessed with the beautiful gowns that these ladies are rocking each rose ceremony! Below we went over the “first night” looks some of the women wore and provide similar options that are available at Castle Couture!

Hannah Anns

Hannah Anns’ first night look consisted of a beautiful, thick strapped, plunging v-neck gown in a stunning emerald color and made with thick, jersey material. This stunning look can be mimicked by one of our most popular designers, Jessica Angel. Style number 327 is the perfect way to achieve this look in the most elegant way possible. Jessica Angel gowns are beyond beautiful and a great look for prom, guest of a wedding, or any special occasion. Emerald has been such a popular color this year, looking fabulous on so many skin tones. A gorgeous green will truly bring out nearly anyone’s eye color, especially Hannah Ann’s big, green eyes!

Alayah B.

Similar to Hannah’s gown, Alayah wore a plunging v-neck with a high slit and a cinched waistline. This pageant queen rocked a cream-colored gown from Jessica Angel style 385, which is available at Castle Couture! High slits have been a trend for years and are still just as hot as ever. The beauty of this look is that it can always be altered to your liking. In our alterations department, we can always close the neckline or bring the slit a little lower to make our Castle Couture ladies feel as comfortable as possible and make this gown perfect for each individual style.

Sydney H.

Over the last few episodes on Peter’s season of The Bachelor, Sydney was first to initiate a whirlwind of drama within the house. Between her controversy with Alayah and bringing it to Peter’s attention, there has not been a dull moment with her and that is exactly why we love her! Sydney manages to speak her truth all while doing so in style. The first night, she arrived in one of the most glamorous gowns of the night: a heavily beaded, champagne gown with an extremely flattering halter neckline. The gown had an open back and mini train that left a heavy impact on Peter. We loved this gown so much we tried our best to find a match and decided this amazing Jovani gown is close to perfect!

Victoria F.

Victoria F. really rocked the house in this past week’s episode after the drama arose with her ex-boyfriend making an appearance at her one-on-one with Peter. Victoria has been the main character on the show from the Chase Rice drama, almost winning the Revolve fashion show and even her pickup line to Peter on night one. Not only was her pickup line one for the books, but so was her beautiful gown. At first, it seemed as though she were wearing a black beaded gown, but, after a closer look, it was actually a deep emerald. As mentioned earlier, this color looks so rich on everyone, we weren’t surprised to see her looking like a supermodel. The gown’s features included thicker straps, a deep neckline, and twinkles as she took every step. A gown that would almost mimic this look is our Primavera Couture gown in Forest Green. This Primavera gown has a slit, a low back, and gorgeous vertical beading that is designed to elongate your body.

Shiann

Shiann’s dress consisted of a high neck, cream-colored gown with a unique sequin print. This unique print was perfect for showcasing her curves in the best way possible as she wore her hair down and rocked a soft glam makeup look. Finding a gown similar to this look was more challenging because of how unusual and stunning it was. We did our best to match it and came across a Jovani gown that has been a huge hit this year due to its unique pattern and flattering shape. Jovani 2669 is nearly identical to Shiann’s look, minus the neckline. Our Jovani gown is off-the-shoulder with a lovely sweetheart neckline while Shiann’s dress had a high-neck look.

Lauren

Lauren’s first-night look had us absolutely gushing! She completely stood out from the other women not because of the color or fabric of her look but because she wore the hottest jumpsuit we have ever seen! All the women wore stunning gowns and that is exactly what almost everyone has done in past seasons. So, for her to pop out in this black lace jumpsuit with a tad of sparkle was such a power move! Even “the Bachelor” himself mentioned how he loved her “power suit.” If you’re looking to rock something like this, we totally recommend checking out Jovani 64068. This jumpsuit is just as powerful as Lauren’s, but comes with this fabulous bow and plunging neckline to add an extra element of sexy!
